Alex Ernst, lifelong resident of New York’s Capital Region (Albany), riding OHMs off and on since age 13 (against will of society, parents), occasional road riding. Proud Life Member of CATRA, one of only two NY-based OHV clubs with title to its own land. Discovered the miracle of the highway plated OHM and concurrently NETRA in 1994; member ever since and grateful to the fine clubs and their people that compose the Association for improving my life. Late bloomer to enduros in 1998 at age 30. Eventually reached 1st place B-heavy in 2004. Among the few Gas Gas holdouts, in spite of it all. From 1999 to 2006, managed the affairs of NYS Off-Highway Recreational Vehicle Association (nysorva.org), NY’s state-level wheeled-OHV advocacy and lobbying organization. Grateful to have the opportunity to serve my beloved NETRA after all these enjoyable years.

My time with NETRA goes back to my childhood racing motocross. At the time there were no Jr. Enduros - only Senior Enduros. My friends and I put on Jr. Enduros in our town, so I wrote a letter to Trail Rider Magazine's Bob Hicks asking why there were no Enduros for kids in New England. He published my letter and soon after, Jr. Enduros were added. I have competed in Hare Scrambles, Enduros, Turkey Runs, and Charity rides through the years.

After a nearly 15 year absence from the sport, my family and I have returned. My daughters Chelsea and Stacey started in nervous novice and then pee wees and are now competing. I have also started racing again. I feel it is my turn to give back to the sport and organization. I am not finishing my second year as Youth Coordinator, Competition Committee member, and Board of Directors member and am a member of the Nutmeg Scramblers Club.
Name:HOWARD, LEN
Term Until:2010
E-Mail:lhoward@capital.net
Position:BOARD MEMBER
Bio:
Linus “Len” Howard has a Master degree from Columbia University and previously worked on Wall Street for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. A return to rural upstate New York in 2000 allowed for heavy involvement in NETRA enduro riding and OHV advocacy including OHV related research. The constant barrage of anti-OHV attacks, political losses in state houses and Congress, loss of riding opportunities and a deep commitment to the sport motivated Len to serve on the NETRA BOD (now in his second term). Today Len owns a small remodeling company in the Albany area, is a member of CATRA, and is heavily involved in CATRA’s annual hare scrambles.
Name:HOWLEY, KEVIN

Position:TREASURER
Bio:
Kevin Howley has served on NETRA's Board of Directors and as NETRA's Treasurer for more than fifteen years. Kevin first became involved with NETRA in the mid-eighties attending NETRA enduros as a pit person for his older brother and a friend. Kevin began riding NETRA hare scrambles late in 1986 and enduros in 1987, and competed in both series until the mid-nineties. Kevin still competes in the NETRA enduro series in the A Bantam class. NETRA enduro competitors are more likely to recognize Kevin's wife Jennifer than they are him, as she has pitted for Kevin and other enduro riders at virtually every NETRA enduro for the past sixteen years and is always out on the course. Kevin's twin daughters, Julianne & Kaitlyn, ride some of the NETRA Pee Wee events. Kevin is a member of the King Philip Trail Riders and is actively involved in the club events. Kevin is a Certified Public Accountant and lives with his family in Wrentham, MA.

Bio:
My hometown is Ellington CT. I have been in town since 1970. I am 48 years old. My wife Cheryl and I have been married for 25 years. We have two adult children, Eric and Aaron. We all are active in NETRA, as well as our club "The Nutmeg Scramblers". I first got into enduro's as a youngster in 1967ish. My first recollection is of enduro's starting at the old Crystal Lake (Ellington CT) ballroom. I have had more bikes than I can even remember. I think my first motorized bike was a "Taco" mini bike, I saved my paper route money to buy. It was $40.00. I have been kicking around NETRA's Board of Directors, and Competition commitee since 1995 or 6. The first few year's I was involved, I really wasn't. I attended the meetings out of interest, but never really wanted to "make the commitment". In any case I did. 2008 will be my 4th year as Competition Commitee Chair Person. I truly enjoy the challenges of leading our member competition clubs. I believe that as a group our commitee is probably as strong, and progressive groups as I remember. I strive to keep open and frank communications with all NETRA members, and our member clubs.

I am 41 yrs old and I'm a self employed Home Builder. I have been married to my wife Cheryl for 19 years now. We have three children all of which ride. Christy 17yrs old rides in the womens class, Nicholas 13yrs old rides in the Big Wheel class, and Jason 8 yrs old rides in the Pee Wee's. I myself ride in the C-Senior class. We compete in mostly Hare Scrambles but we also ride some Jr. Enduro's. We got started in Netra in 2005 and got hooked right away. I am a member of the Pilgrim Sands Trailriders and the Seacoast Trailriders. I am a Pee Wee Advisor and a Hare Scramble rider Rep. I was into Motocross as a kid and did very little trail riding. In 1987 I was badly injured while racing and ended up in a Wheelchair for almost a year. I stopped riding and in 2004 my kids were getting the Itch to ride. We purchased four bikes and the rest is history. We love trailriding and enjoy our many friends we have made in Netra. I have been involved with some of the House Bills Netra has been working on. We as a Family have found this sport very fufilling and has become a big part of our life. I thank everyone who gave me the oppertunity to serve on the Board.

First involved with motorcycles in 1964 with an 80cc Yamaha. Used it in the woods that year and then a YDS-3 Yamaha in '66 (a really inappropriate woods bike).. At the end of 1965 got a 175 Jawa for the woods from Dick Bettencourt and joined “Lost River “motorcycle club, aka as “Brush Busters”. Lost River members included Cliff Frazee of “Cliff's Cycles” and Ernie Wurlitzer of “Torco Oil”, also Joe Morel was part of this scene at Suanco Motorcycles located where Cliff's is today. We did some woods rides together. Interest in competition developed. In 1966, at Grafton Vermont, I participated in a short introductory Enduro organized by Al Eames. In '67 I bought my first real enduro bike, an Ossa Pioneer. April '68 rode rode the Bud Peck/Dave Latham organized “Paul Revere Enduro”, my first real enduro (the electronic ignition failed, Bud pulled me off a powerline about a mile from the finish). Became a Rhody Rover for about five years and rode enduros regularly for 10-12 year.s. Organized Junior enduros and Turkey Runs with Joe Morel at Plainville, Massachusetts as Rhody Rovers North. Signed up with NETRA at the monster meeting in the ballroom at Mt. Tom. Started King Philip Trail Riders with the Morels in 1973. I am KPTR's president for life. Got to be a NETRA trustees (now called a director) during Jack Noga's presidency, circa 1976. Thee years later, was NETRA president for two years. NETRA accepted the Hare Scrambles program from Gordy Coyle, during my presidency. Some time during my enduro years I produced the Promotion Chart used by NETRA and the AMA, first for the top 10% and then again for the top 15%. Since circa 1984, I have been secretary to NETRA's BOD. Haven't ridden in years.
